Private Wood Fired Hot Tub

The Lodge comes with it's own private wood fired hot tub for your use, perfect for relaxing whilst watching the sun go down, with views over the one acre paddock.

We chose a wood fired hot tub for two main reasons, firstly we have local wood available, so reducing electricity usage.  Secondly we only fill the hot tub with water softener treated water, so there are no chemicals used to treat the hot tub water.  We find it is much kinder on your skin and doesn't come with the chlorine smells typical of electrically heated tubs.

Hot Tub Heating and Usage guide

Key Information

Do not light the stove until the hot tub has been filled.

Switch on hot tub power and lights – switches are located to the left of the entrance to hot tub shelter.

Please do not test or run air or water jets until the hot tub has been filled

Filling the hot tub with water – 45 Minutes

  1. If you have booked our hot tub it will be filled with cold water for your arrival.
  2. For your comfort the hot tub is filled using softened water only.  This is available via the large bore hose on the side of the lodge (Yellow and red striped hose).  Extend the hose and rest under the insulated hot tub lid for stability.  Turn on the water at the wall tap.  The hot tub takes approx 45 minutes to fill from empty.
  3. Please regularly check the fill level of the hot tub, stop filling about 10cm from the top of the tub.

HOT TUB HEATING  (average 2 ½ hours) AND USAGE

  1. Only light the stove when the Tub is full and the insulated lid is in place.
  2. Have fire glove, firewood, kindling and fire Lighters available.
  3. Fill Stove to 2/3rds full of firewood, this allows air to circulate. Then light the fire, close the door and slide the Air Slots to Open.
  4. Repeatedly check the stove for the first hour, at this point you may wish to stir the water with the paddle to help with the water heating process. To re-stock the stove when the fire dwindles, open the Stove Door by using the glove and re-fill up to the 2/3rds level.
  5. After a further hour the water will be close to the Target temperature (this is generally 38C, but should be lower for children, we would suggest 34C to 36C max).
  6. Open the insulated lid and stir the water with the wooden Paddle to circulate the water.  Check the Thermometers and add more wood to the stove if necessary.
  7. When the water Temperature is 2C below your target temperature, close the Stove Door Air Slots.
  8. Do not heat water above 40C / 104F, this may be uncomfortable or cause injury.
  9. If the water temperature is above 40C / 104F, or is too hot for your liking, ensure that the stove air slots are closed and add more cold water from the filling hose.
  10. For your comfort remove the insulated lid, fold and hang it on the Wall Brackets supplied, this takes two adults.
  11. Information and warning signage is displayed, and we ask that you follow the instructions accordingly.
  12. The water can typically be used multiple times over a 48 hour period, but then needs to be cooled and drained (see section below) especially if it becomes discoloured.
  13. After bathing, replace the insulated lid on the Tub.
  14. The water temp will drop by around 3C overnight with the insulated lid in place.
  15. The stove requires less firewood and time to heat the water by a few degrees compared to heating from cold.
  16. Due to the risk of injury plastic drinking vessels are provided and can be found in the Lodge.  NO GLASSWARE SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO THE HOT TUB AREA
  17. Use of this hot tub is at your own discretion and no liability attributed to unsuitable or improper use or failure to follow the warning signage will be accepted by the property owners

Emptying the hot tub – 45 Minutes

  1. The hot tub water must be cold before draining, as the water is drained to a soakaway in the paddock, and trees could be harmed if hot water is drained.
  2. The hot tub is emptied via a green reinforced hose that connects to the drain tap on the stove side of the hot tub.
  3. The hose is found inside the side wall.
  4. The brass connector requires a rubber seal to be inserted, which is kept on the drain valve handle.
  5. Once connected, open the drain valve. Emptying takes circa 45 minutes.
  6. If the hot tub is to be re-used then we recommend a wipe down of the tub interior using an antibacterial spray, which is supplied in the Lodge kitchen cupboard. Then hose down of the tub interior while the drain value is still open, to hose away any spray residue.  Close the drain valve and use the Yellow and red large bore hose pipe to refill the Hot Tub.  Limescale flakes may come from the heat exchanger while it fills, this can be removed by using a wet vac or by over filling the hot tub so that the overflow clears the limescale residue.
